The Way That You Roll - 2007
This entertaining disc opens with the country-flavored “Take me Back”. This song brings back memories of Burgh-area haunts such as the Ches-a-rena and the Decade. These are places where true “yinzers” like me enjoyed many moments. The fun continues with “Catholic Girls”, a rocker that asks the question, “How do those Catholic girls know what to do?”. Vento continues the journey back through our youth with “Trans Am Dream” and “High School Dance”. These 2 songs revisit days of girls and fast cars and the joy, love and heartbreak that those 2 things conjure up in a young man. Two compositions by local guitar hotshot John Fiore, “Mr. Cool” and the title track “The Way That You Roll”, add more rock-n-roll fuel to the soul for this trip down memory lane. Vento is joined by many renowned veterans of the local music scene including ex-Wild Cherry drummer Ron Beitle, Jimmy Britton on keyboards, and Kenny Blake on saxophone. Local guitar hero Reb Beach makes an appearance on two tracks as Pet Hewlett adds vocals to several others. The disc was produced by the great Buddy Hall who also provided guitar, bass, and vocals to several tracks. You’re going to love John Vento and the Nied’s Hotel Band and “The Way That You Roll”!
